We’re delighted to share that this September marks 35 years of MFB. Managing Director, Gavin Richardson, reflects on our time in the market and what this achievement means for the business.
35 years ago, we set out to challenge convention and bring clarity to property finance, and today, we’re proud to continue that mission with the same passion, integrity, and client-first ethos that defined our beginnings.
Our 35th anniversary marks over three and a half decades of trusted service, innovation, and leadership in the UK property finance sector.
Looking back
Founded in 1990 in Sevenoaks as Mortgages for Business, we launched primarily, as the name suggests, to provide commercial finance for businesses. We had a bold vision of simplifying and professionalising mortgage advice and, above all, providing great financial outcomes for all our clients.
What started as a small team has now grown to match the big ideas we’ve had since the very beginning. Now, with two offices across the country, MFB is firmly established as one of the UK’s most respected specialist brokers, helping thousands of clients navigate the ever-changing landscape of buy to let, commercial, bridging, development and residential finance.
We rebranded to Mortgage Finance Brokers (MFB) in 2024 to reflect our evolution and expanded offering.
What we’ve achieved
Over the years, MFB has:
- Helped shape the buy to let mortgage market from its infancy in the mid-1990s, including being a founding partner of the NACFB
- Brokered over £15.5 billion in property finance deals
- Helped over 77,000 clients
- Navigated clients through economic cycles, political rollercoasters (10 Prime Ministers from 2 Conservative and 2 Labour Governments), regulatory reforms, and interest rate shifts (the Base Rate was 14% when we launched!)
- Embraced digital innovation to deliver faster, smarter, and more personalised service
- Proudly achieved 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot for client satisfaction
- Maintained a reputation for expertise, transparency, and results-driven advice
- Received over 50 Industry awards, including Best Brokerage, Best Customer Service and Top Mortgage Employer
The future for MFB
Looking ahead, we’re still as committed today as we were all those years ago to empowering property investors with tailored solutions, market insight, and a human touch that sets us apart. This milestone isn’t just about longevity, it’s about impact.
We’ve helped build portfolios, businesses, and futures. And we’re still evolving, with ambitious plans to broaden our advice and partnerships, ensuring our clients can get all the advice and services they need from under our roof, and enhancing our technology and efficiency to complement our amazing team. It feels like we are just getting started.
